Veivatuloa - First Community to Plant Sago Palm Veivatuloa village has started planting sago palm, thanks to the assistance in kind of Philip Gerlach who has provided the sago palm seeds
01/05/08 - Dick Watling
Veivatuloa community, with the encouragement and direction of Master Kotoisuva has started to plant sago in a low-lying area near the village where sago used to grow. This is the first community to recognise the economic and cultural significance of the sago palm and to make a concerted effort to restore a habitat which they had allowed to disappear through neglect. NFMV gratefully acknowledges Philip Gerlach of Tahila Pacific for donating over 250 seeds from his Coloisuva home.
