Produced by the Union for Ethical Bio Trade – An overview of biodiversity awareness.
News from the Ramsar Secretariat!
The Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) has produced a Biodiversity Barometer – an overview of biodiversity awareness from the perspective of the consumer, industry and the media.
- How many people have heard of biodiversity?
- What do people understand by the term?
- Has their awareness improved over the last few years?
- What message is most likely to encourage people to conserve biodiversity?
- What are companies saying about biodiversity?
The 6-page report shows in graphic and tabular form the responses of 7,000 respondents from seven countries including Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, UK and USA.
In general, awareness of biodiversity and what it means is increasing but there are interesting differences between countries with South Korea the ‘champions’ for correctly defining the term.
Most aware are people with higher incomes, higher levels of education, and younger consumers.
And there’s more….
I recommend you take a few minutes to read this – it’s a quick read and provides some easy sound bites of information that may be of use to you in thinking about your next awareness-raising campaign.
