Exciting activity for club members.
Please confirm your attendance by Wednesday 22nd July, 2009
Dear NatureFiji-MareqetiViti Club members and friends,
It has been 6 months since our last Club activity, and as promised, here is our second activity:
Translocation of two of Fiji’s endemic and critically endangered palms (Fiji Sago Palm and Navua Palm) into the National Trust of Fiji’s Garrick Reserve in Navua.
The Garrick Reserve is managed by the National Trust for Fiji and has been relatively untouched for several years. This activity will be one of the rare moments that visitors will get to enter the Reserve.
Objectives of activity:
- Planting of Sago palm and Navua Palm in the Garrick Reserve: “ creating an ‘insurance population’ for two of Fiji’s endemic and critically endangered palms
- Weeding of the invasive African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata)
We will be departing NatureFiji-MareqetiViti office (14 Hamilton-Beattie) on a chartered bus at 8am on Saturday 25th July.
If you would like to participate in this historical activity, and be one of the rare pioneers in saving our endangered palms, please contact us to confirm your participation.
