The “Rainbow Warrior” Trust is funding NatureFiji-MareqetiViti’s flagship Sago Palm Project for the upcoming year.

The Pacific Development & Conservation Trust, set up as a result of the Rainbow Warrior incident a decade ago, is fully funding our Sago Palm Project for 2008.

This will see the recruitment of a project officer who will organise and undertake the large amount of consultations required to finalise the Fiji Sago Palm Recovery Plan which NatureFiji-MareqetiViti has prepared in Draft.

The Fiji Sago Palm Metroxylon vitiense is an endemic Fijian species essentially restricted to Serua, and is under great threat from unsustainable harvesting for thatch and for palm heart.

The project is being undertaken in partnership with the National Trust for Fiji and the Department of the Environment.

We will be amending our website in near future to provide information on our projects.
