Veivatuloa village has started planting sago palm, thanks to the assistance in kind of Philip Gerlach who has provided the sago palm seeds.

Veivatuloa community, with the encouragement and direction of Master Kotoisuva has started to plant sago in a low-lying area near the village where sago used to grow.

This is the first community to recognise the economic and cultural significance of the sago palm and to make a concerted effort to restore a habitat which they had allowed to disappear through neglect.

NFMV gratefully acknowledges Philip Gerlach of Tahila Pacific for donating over 250 seeds from his Coloisuva home
